Nicola Bergonzi 151/2" Viola - 2010

Back Length 394 mm

Sold

The instrument already has a mature & responsive orchestral sound and would be ideal as a second instrument for a violinist, or for a player with a small hand.

The varnish is based on an influential formula from the mid C18th, for a 'white' or clear finish which I have been developing for accurate retouching.  It is described as being 'as clear as water' and is certainly beautifully transparent.

I have coloured it with madder tinctures.  The ground is the first trial of the new formula and the photos give an indication of the way in which light is trapped and refracted under the varnish.
