Having graduated in fine art (sculpture & painting), I taught art and music for several years. I began making instruments and undertaking repairs due to my involvement in both early music and school orchestras. Since the late 1970s I have worked with colleagues from many schools and nationalities, both making & repairing instruments.
In the late 1990s I moved to Derbyshire and subsequently established the English Cello Studio with Dr John Basford. During this period we devoted our time to exhaustive research into the history of the violin, the nature of its construction & varnish, and making many copies as part of the process.
I now work from home continuing to develop the re-creation of the famous grounds of the golden period and refining work on C18th & C19th varnishes and pigments. Most of my work is undertaken for shops and dealers, although I undertake a number of commissions & restorations for individual players.
